Hi I'm a 28 year old mechanic from just outside Leeds. I am looking at retraining to be a plumber I have 3 years experience in renovations when I left school with a joiner and plumber. I've had a look at these earn whilst you learn courses and stuff. I've decided to try and do an evening coarse at my local college and get a diploma and then build up a portfolio for for my NVQS is this the best route to go down. I want to eventually become gas safe but I know there probably no quick route. I work 4 days on then have 4 days off in my current job is there anyone that I could give a helping hand to for some experience on my days off I'm not bothered about been paid just want some experience. I'm not a total newbie to the building trade my brother a joiner the other ones a bricklayer. And im on with getting my Cscs card and have my own transport. Any help would be great thanks.

Markr88: All the best in your quest.
However, my advice to you would be get your M.O.T testing qualification under your belt and specialise in what you already know.
The Gas Safe / Plumbing industry isn't all its cracked up to be, many other companies will see you as the 'competition'. So gaining on the job training will be difficult. Also the cost you have to lay out for ACS training, appliances, tools / calibration, advertising, yearly gas safe registration.
If your not earning its money down the drain.

Hi all, apologies in advance for my ignorance. I have an old style toilet with what I've researched is a ballcock. The toilet was screaming every time we flushed so I googled and found it was the diaphragm valve that needed replaced. I bought a pack of diaphragm seals and attempted to change...

Hi I've had to cut hot and cold feed to re route for bathroom feeds. The 22mm Copper pipe hot feed is slightly smaller then my 22mm Copper. Solder fittings just slip over it and are really loose so I gather this is old imperial pipe, so I shall use a 3/4 to 22mm coupler. However on the...

I'm having a nightmare trying to find matt black wall or deck mounted bath mixer taps with 3/4 fitting that work on 0.2 bar. From tank to tap, I have around 2.4 metres, so a pressure of a little over 0.2 bar. The flow measured from the tap currently fitted is 11 litres per minute. Pretty much...
