Unvented cylinder in loft with open vented heatinf

I have a job putting an unvented cylinder in loft, (I’m G3) but they have open vented heating. I’m wondering if this will be possible as flow into cylinder will be higher than f and e tank. Worries about pumping over, any thoughts? Convert heating to close system first?

How to reduce corrosion in vented heating systems

Some vented heating systems seem to sludge up, and yet other remain remain remarkably clean after many years service. Why? Corrosion is caused by oxygen. Eliminating leaks and inhibitor helps, but the F&E tank is open to the air, so oxygen can freely get in there. Is it possible to design a...

Clunk when switching on hot water heating system - non vented system

Hi, about 5 years ago I had a new boiler fitted. The location of the boiler was moved so new pipes fitted. No problems. About 2 years ago I then needed to have my 3 way valve replaced, this is when issues began. Initially there was no heat and the system was drained several times, this...

Is there a future for vented systems?

Coming from Canada, and having lived in Europe for some years, I was a bit surprised that people still install vented heating systems in the UK. As a kid I lived in a 1912 house with original cast iron boiler and radiators, and I remember the expansion tank with sight glass, it was in my room...

Vortex Circulators in open vented system

Has anybody experience with installing a vortex type central heating circulator? Because of back pressure on stopping the motor on a Grundfos, I'm looking at this alternative design which doesn't seem to interfere with the free flow of water. However, I can only find a German manufacturer...

URGENT water level changes significantly in expansion pipe (open vented system)

I have made some adaptations to the layout of an existing open vented one pipe system. The pump is now some 6 or 7 metres away from the boiler. The cold feed is on the negative side of the pump as is the expansion pipe. The order of fixing is expansion pipe - cold feed - pump. When the pump...

Replacing radiator and valves on open vented system.

Hi, I have a hot water tank, 3 header tanks in the loft and so I am assuming I am on an open vented system. I wish to replace a bathroom radiator with a wider one so will need to extend the existing pipework. I also want to tile around the pipework by drilling the tiles (for a neat finish) and...

VENTED central heating system - water circulating through header tank

Two years ago, I requested a fully qualified plumber to change the location of the hot water cylinder in a vented central heating system. I wanted to move it from the first floor to the loft, which he did. During the last two years, I have often noticed when I have been up in the loft that the...

Hi, I'm coming to the brainy forum for a proper answer! Scene - vented system, was originally gravity with Aga, then oil boiler with integral pump, then new oil boiler last year with fully pumped "Y" system. I have problems with air in radiators. I find there is a single 22mm expansion/fill...

Is it the tap or the vented hot water system?

Hi all, I've got a customer with an Edwardian bath/shower mixer which gives her water that's either too hot or too cold. The taps are quarter turn, so ceramic disks of course, but even I couldn't get the hot water to come out at a safe temperature. I'm wondering if this is down to a failure...

    Gravity and vented thermal store.

Apologies for the unusual question, as I am an interested DIYer. The question is, why do you need a gravity coil, on a thermal store? Surely, you'd get better flow rate from direct connections to the side, as there would be no friction and you could use 35mm or 42mm copper pipe, to a 2 inch...
