smart meter
A smart meter is an electronic device that records information such as consumption of electric energy, voltage levels, current, and power factor. Smart meters communicate the information to the consumer for greater clarity of consumption behavior, and electricity suppliers for system monitoring and customer billing. Smart meters typically record energy near real-time, and report regularly, short intervals throughout the day. Smart meters enable two-way communication between the meter and the central system. Such an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) differs from automatic meter reading (AMR) in that it enables two-way communication between the meter and the supplier. Communications from the meter to the network may be wireless, or via fixed wired connections such as power line carrier (PLC). Wireless communication options in common use include cellular communications, Wi-Fi (readily available), wireless ad hoc networks over Wi-Fi, wireless mesh networks, low power long-range wireless (LoRa), Wize (high radio penetration rate, open, using the frequency 169 MHz) ZigBee (low power, low data rate wireless), and Wi-SUN (Smart Utility Networks).

A domestic Gas Standard pre-payment Meter was exchanged for a Gas Smart Meter (SM) and then connected back to the pre-existing pliable/semi-rigid/anaconda connectors.
I believe this is illegal and breaks laws and regulations when this was done on 30 March 2017.
But my Utility company who had the...
An OVO fitter installed a gas meter and said we would smell gas for 24-48 hours. I took a look in the meter box and saw a load of putty and sealant around pipe that goes into the property. Just wondered if this looks like it's been done correctly? Or if we should get it looked at.
Hi all,
First off, I'm just a homeowner looking for advice, I'm not a gas engineer.
On Friday I had smart meters installed and 5 times since then (never previously), the 3-year-old Ideal Logic + Combi boiler has made a fairly loud humming/vibrating noise while running hot water for a few...
I work on new builds so mainly come across smart meters. Though we do some boiler replacements too. I have the meter shown below a digital one but not a smart meter or E6?
Hi first time post,
Got called out on a Sunday regarding a boiler breakdown.
Previous day both electric and gas meters had been changed to smart meters and the boiler had been deemed AR as the pilot would light (electronic ignition) but main burner failed to light.
Inspected the boiler...
Hello.
Could anyone please advise, if a Smart Meter for the Gas supply to a house would require a connection to its domestic electricity supply?
Thank you, Pete.

I keep reading in trade mags and elsewhere about the apparent shortage of smart meter installers. I wonder if anyone on the forum has considered getting involved and if not,why not?
Hi
I am thinking of taking a course in smart metering and becoming an installer. I want to know how easy it would then be to become fully gas safe registered and become a full gas engineer and gain the CCN1 qualification?
Thanks
