radiator

Radiators are heat exchangers used to transfer thermal energy from one medium to another for the purpose of cooling and heating. The majority of radiators are constructed to function in cars, buildings, and electronics.A radiator is always a source of heat to its environment, although this may be for either the purpose of heating this environment, or for cooling the fluid or coolant supplied to it, as for automotive engine cooling and HVAC dry cooling towers. Despite the name, most radiators transfer the bulk of their heat via convection instead of thermal radiation.

Automatic bypass valve versus open radiator

Hi I have an Evohome which maintains the set temperature and so when it powers the boiler most of the radiator valves are closed with one or two slightly open, basically just "topping up" rather than heating fully. This means that the automatic bypass valve (ABV) has to open as well. Now...

"Designer" radiator inlet and outlet issue.

I've bought 4 new rads to replace existing ones. They are all singles and have inlet marked on lefthand side. The problem is that the existing pipework (microbore, plastered in-wall) has the inflow sometimes on the right and sometimes on the left. As the rads are singles I can't reverse them...

    Radiator advice - column rad?

Hi all, Recently moved into a house that appears to have some not-so-effective radiators (some are very hot so am confident no issue with the boiler). The worst offender is an angled double radiator in a bay window (measures 450mm high and 240mm long). It barely gets hot despite the flow pipe...

    Radiator tail olives

Been wondering a while and finally curiosity has got the better of me. Was going to ring Pegler but they have all gone home. Have a few terrier valves to fit. On all of them the olive on the radiator tail is only say 2, or 3 at the most, mm down the tail stem. Would it not be better if the stem...

Hi, I'm looking to buy and install a couple new radiators for my property as they are very outdated and lack the heating power to warm up the rooms. The problem I have is that they are so old that I can't find radiators that match their exact size. First radiator is a single sided 600mm x...

    ASHP radiator pipework requirements?

I am having an ASHP, radiators and pipework installed to replace storage heaters. How can I check whether the proposed pipework and pump can cope with the heat demand? The installer is proposing a single circuit with 14 radiators with a combined heat demand of around 8kW. I hear heat pumps...

Hot radiator return pipes but warm flow pipes

Although my CH radiators are hot to touch eventually, I have noticed that one in the downstairs sitting room and probably one of the last to get really hot, has a warm flow pipe and a very hot return pipe. The same applies to some of my other radiators but not all. Is this a balancing issue...
