pilot light
A pilot light is a small gas flame, usually natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas, which serves as an ignition source for a more powerful gas burner. Originally a pilot light was kept permanently alight, but this wastes gas. Now it is more common to light a burner electrically, but gas pilot lights are still used when a high energy ignition source is necessary, as in when lighting a large burner.
The term "pilot light" is also used occasionally for an electrical indicator light that illuminates to show that electrical power is available, or that an electrical device is operating. Such indicators were originally incandescent lamps or neon lamps, but now are usually LEDs.
Just bought a house with above boiler which has a history of regular servicing (last six months ago). When I moved in gas was shut off at the meter and electrics to boiler turned off. I turned on the gas at meter and checked to see if the counter was revolving to check for obvious leaks. It...

My AGA pilot light went out and I could not get it to stay lit when I re-ignited it. So I changed the thermocouple - really easy - took the old one out and took it to my local heating parts supplier and he sold me an equivalent one for £5. I had to carefully hacksaw off the fixing screw on the...
Hi

We have an old Potterton Prima B boiler, up until now working fine. We went away for several days, leaving HW and CH on (with rads low). We returned to find everything off and the pilot light out. I re-lit the pilot light and since then it runs for a while (sometimes as long as a whole day)...

My Worcester Bosch 240 Combi pilot light has gone out. I know where the red spark generator button is, but can't for the life of me find a grey button on the gas valve. The valve is a Honeywell VR4601MA3013 - can anyone tell me where to find the 'grey button' on it?!
hi everyone, I have got a gas fire for repair (valor heartbeat - radiant/convecter ) very soon, the problem is it sometimes the pilot doesn't light or it takes while then lights but sparking is ok. any ideas?
Ideal Concord CX170 - problem with pilot light.
The Pilot light is a bit poor but will hold the thermocouple in with a bit of patience.
When boiler fires up on main burner, pilot light becomes very weak and sometimes the burners drop out because the pilot cannot keep the heat on the...
Hi everyone, Unusual question for you but a bit concerned. We have an old Baxi back gas boiler with 70's gas fire on the front. We were looking after someone's dog, and it kept looking at the fire (Lol! The ugly thing probably scared it!) Anyway, it slowly walked up to about 2 foot infront of...
