olives

The olive, botanical name Olea europaea, meaning 'European olive', is a species of small tree or shrub in the family Oleaceae, found traditionally in the Mediterranean Basin. The species is cultivated in all the countries of the Mediterranean, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, North and South America and South Africa. Olea europaea is the type species for the genus Olea.
The olive's fruit, also called an "olive", is of major agricultural importance in the Mediterranean region as the source of olive oil; it is one of the core ingredients in Mediterranean cuisine. The tree and its fruit give their name to the plant family, which also includes species such as lilacs, jasmine, Forsythia, and the true ash trees (Fraxinus).
When in shrub form, it is known as Olea europaea 'Montra', dwarf olive, or little olive. The shrub does not produce any fruit.

    Sealing olives

There seem to be a few camp on compression fittings, some people just fit an olive, others olive with PTFE tape and a third group olive and paste. I’ve never bothered with tape etc and never had an olive leak. Are the other options a DIY thing or are people taught one to the olive + tape etc?

15mm Olives On 1/2" Pipe Question

Need to ask another question from the experts on here. A year ago, I added an iso. valve to the pipe under a tap. The pipe is old 1/2" and the olives were the copper ones that came with the new valve. At the time, I remember that I had to tighten the compression nuts quite a bit as there was...

    Replacing Radiator

I recently fitted a new radiator to our bathroom and, a few months later, have noticed that it is not level. I'd like to fix that, which means disconnecting the radiator from the central heating pipework and leveling the wall-mounts that the radiator hangs on. There are small silver pipes...

    New fittings onto old pipe

Today I've put some new 22mm ballofix valves onto some old pipework. They tighten up to what would usually be enough, but if I get a spanner on the fitting, I can still rotate the fitting on the old pipe. I'm aware old pipe appears a touch smaller. I've dressed the olives in V2 paste, but yet...
