measuring
Measurement is the quantification of attributes of an object or event, which can be used to compare with other objects or events. The scope and application of measurement are dependent on the context and discipline. In natural sciences and engineering, measurements do not apply to nominal properties of objects or events, which is consistent with the guidelines of the International vocabulary of metrology published by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. However, in other fields such as statistics as well as the social and behavioural sciences, measurements can have multiple levels, which would include nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio scales.Measurement is a cornerstone of trade, science, technology and quantitative research in many disciplines. Historically, many measurement systems existed for the varied fields of human existence to facilitate comparisons in these fields. Often these were achieved by local agreements between trading partners or collaborators. Since the 18th century, developments progressed towards unifying, widely accepted standards that resulted in the modern International System of Units (SI). This system reduces all physical measurements to a mathematical combination of seven base units. The science of measurement is pursued in the field of metrology.
Measurement is defined as the process of comparison of an unknown quantity with a known or standard quantity.
Hello everyone,
I'm facing a rather complex situation and I need your expert advice. My neighbor and I share a boiler for hot water, and we have a single recirculation pump serving both of our homes. However, after the pump, the recirculation circuit splits into two separate branches, each...
Hi all. I have a Polypipe UFH manifold with flow meters for each circuit. I’ve worked out the pipe length and know what flow rate to achieve BUT the flow meters do not have any scale. All I have is min (top) and max (bottom) and nothing in between! The Polypipe product code is PB129FM for the...
Ok, so if your in the Gas Safe forum you can view my worst week ever. One of the jobs that went wrong in that week was a basic rad single panel for double swap, should have been nice and easy, plenty of movement on the 10mm pipe.
Only it went wrong because I turned up with a 600w by 400h rad...
Who, when you take a working pressure at the meter in a property with multi appliances (or boiler and cooker) record the measurement on a cp12 with all the appliances working?
Or do you just have the appliance with the largest load on?
Hi all,
I've moved home recently and was curious to see how much change in the water meter reading having a bath would have - The meter is in the downstairs toilet so I can see the reading. I've noticed however that after a bath, there was no change at all in the reading, if I run any taps...

Hello, I'm a layperson not in the trade. I hope I'm posting this question to the right place. Thanks for your attention.
We are investigating getting a new 32mm mains supply put in by Thames water and re-plumbing internally with 22mm to resolve a poor flow rate in our 1960s house. This will...

How do you measure this?
Do you study the ground type and use the MIS3005 lookup tables, if so how? Or commission a report from a specialist, or use the BGS website for reports?
This is my biggest concern with ground source, getting this wrong!
thanks in advance
im seeing if anyone uses them infa red measuring devices for checking the length of a chimney for lining sizing , does any body use them or what other methods are best for quick sizing a liner
What tools do you guys use when quoting for an unvented cylinder, I have the usual weir cup and pressure gauge, i also have a dynamic pressure hozelock thingy.
All items seem to give different readings on the same water supply.
Is there anything out there you can recommend.
Im looking at you...
Hi, I have bought a fga and it has on it room CO. I have never used it but tonight could have done with using it and understanding it. I was called to a back boiler that had been condemned due to lack of servicing and was spilling product of combustion into the room. The bloke who was there...
When re-piping (perhaps to replace contorted fleximagigs)
I find you can never view your measuring from an angle that gives you any accuracy. Perhaps some system involving pipe cleaners and bits of string.
Thank you brothers, sisters, comrades and boyfriends.
Hi all.
Just curious to find out the proper way to measure an off set? Obviously different tradesmen have their preferred method so if you could share what way you think works best that would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers.
