Davidson's Mains is a former village and now a district in the north-west of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is adjacent to the districts of Barnton, Cramond, Silverknowes, Blackhall and Corbiehill/House O'Hill. It was absorbed into Edinburgh as part of the boundary changes in 1920 and is part of the EH4 postcode area.
Locals sometimes abbreviate the name to D'Mains.
I was using a mini excavator in the front garden and cut the mains gas supply (website with gas location had it in the wrong place, but a disclaimer saying their info might be inaccurate - the engineer said it was probably moved when they changed the pipe to the new plastic sort).

Strange problem but over the last few weeks we've started getting really unusual water pressure problems through-out the house.
One minute, we have full pressure on all taps and the next, either low pressure or no water at all.
Today for example, at about 1pm, we had no water anywhere in the...
Hi to all in the forum!
I have a 6 bar pressure relief valve attached to an under sink heater and it was always dribbling a bit. Today, I finally bought a new pressure gauge and was astounded to measure the pressure at 7 bar!
I usually find most mains to be between 2-3 bar and so it seems...
Hi, I have my mains pipe coming into the side of my house which is copper. I am going to have the adjacent wall studded out (to the left in pic) and therefore want to hide the mains pipe behind it and put on a low profile stop tap in which can be accessible via a flap or something. There is an...
Hi,
I’m struggling to locate the stopcock in my flat and I need to isolate the boiler so I can swap a bath tap over. Can I isolate it from the water feed on one of the inlets on my boiler? I’ve attached a pic. It’s a Main Combi 24 HE.
All my cold taps can be isolated individually but my hot...
Hi all. My customer has a bath shower mixer that gets cold from the mains and hot from a vented cylinder and the cold knocks out the hot. I'm thinking about putting in a thermostatic bath shower mixer but would appreciate any other ideas! Cheers all/
Hello,
BEFORE
I cleaned the system last year with a mains flush. There was a little inky stuff and a bit of sludge at the very end when I emptied out the rad I took off the wall, but no rads have ever had cold patches. Most pipes are hep20 but I had small section replaced by copper 2 years ago...
Hi sorry if this is a silly question I'm having a new heating system installed ( un vented ) my new mains is due
to be installed ( moled ) in 25 mm MDPE , the Water companies going to replace the communication pipe under the lead replacement scheme ,

Hi All,
I have a GrundFos Home Booster, the 3.5bar version which has transformed my flat, its used for every tap aside from the kitchen cold tap and the kitchen white goods that need mains, it also supplies the pressure for my combi boiler that is the hot water and central heating system.
I...
Was asked to look at a Mains inlet today that the property owner wants moving. It currently comes into the hall in black HDPE , through a concrete slab and about 6 inches up the wall in copper, then poly up the wall and through the unheated loft space. It's not pretty, but at least whoever...
Hi everyone
I was under the assumption that my flat was mains fed throughout but the water company said "We supply cold water to your cold kitchen tap".
So my question is where does the water come from to supply water to the hot water taps in the bathroom and hot water tap in the kitchen?
I...
I have a boiler to swap on a vented system. The open vent was presently attached straight to the boiler. And the cold feed is tee'd in to the hot water return near the coil. When I install the new boiler (it's staying vented). Would I be best off changing the cold fill postion I will obviously...
Has anyone come across extremely mains high pressure in a domestic property ?..? I used 2 gauges one at 6 bar and other at 10 bar both were off scale when static. I was shocked at the readings. Have since fitted PRV. Just seeing if people have experienced the same.
Hi, new to the forum, found you because I have a question!
Partner wants us to install an alkaline water system in the kitchen, something like this, but I'm doubtful of any positive effects. Was thinking maybe to appease I could get a UV disinfection system like this, but can't figure out if...
This is my first post on the forum... but I've been around a while, lurking. Hello!
I'm hoping someone can advise me with a question about unvented cylinders. I'm told they must be connected to the mains and can't be gravity fed, but I'm having trouble understanding why... if the pressure and...
I have a Plimex ball valve that is the inside stop tap for the mains supply that has recently started leaking.
It’s only 2 years old (when property was renovated) and suspect it could be due to thermal cycling with the cold weather.
Access is restricted as the pipe work was put behind a plywood...
The internal stopcock was closed for the first time in about a year as part of a bathroom installation. Now that it's open (I leave it a quarter turn from fully open) it has a slight leak, approx half an egg cup full in 24 hours. Should I get it replaced?
Thanks in advance.
I have a flat in a 1920s UK block.
The mains water feeds ~40 flats, of which I am one.
There is no local boiler, though there is a communal one for the whole building.
Recently, always at night, the mains water pipes have started to vibrate at a high frequency - emitting a "singing" note ...
