loft

A loft is a building's upper storey or elevated area in a room directly under the roof (American usage), or just an attic: a storage space under the roof usually accessed by a ladder (primarily British usage). A loft apartment refers to large adaptable open space, often converted for residential use (a converted loft) from some other use, often light industrial. Adding to the confusion, some converted lofts include upper open loft areas.

Running pipes above boiler - air trap?

Hi We installed a combi boiler in an upper flat by taking the pipes up (above the boiler) and into the loft, and then dropped them back down to the radiators in 3 different rooms (as opposed to the normal method of running the pipes under the floor beneath the boiler which was not possible in...

Was asked to look at a Mains inlet today that the property owner wants moving. It currently comes into the hall in black HDPE , through a concrete slab and about 6 inches up the wall in copper, then poly up the wall and through the unheated loft space. It's not pretty, but at least whoever...

Booster pump to loft cold water tank

I live in a flat with very low mains water pressure, worst since lockdown for some reason though was told the water board had lowered rather then have a hose pipe ban. Require lid and insulation jacket for a cold water storage tank in loft

I have two 114 litre / 25 gallon cold water storage (header) tanks connected in series in my loft. They feed the cold water taps on my baths (including the showers) and the hot water cylinder. Hi, I’m making a “man cave” in my loft and I’d like to fit a sink for making drinks and washing up etc. It’s a low pressure system with a header tank up high in the gable end and 2 water tanks on the deck. I know one feeds the hot water cylinder below and one feeds the cold water below. I...

One isolating valve on both loft tanks inputs?

Hi, just after the mains stopcock under my kitchen sink I have a tee, one pipe to drinkable water+washing machine and the other to the loft cisterns (talking about an open vented pumped S-plan system, standard here in UK). I was wondering whether it is safe to add an isolating valve on the...

    Rubber bungs for loft tanks

Sounds like a good alternative to draining the tank while I replace teh gate but when I do the calcs there's only about half a pound of water pressure keeping the thing in. I don't know whether I am happy with that when there's 50 gallons of water in it ready to escape. I would be happier if...

Do I need to keep the overflow tanks in my loft if I get a combi boiler?

In my loft I have 3 water tanks. A bigger black one, that I believe is the cold water overflow. A smaller black one, that I believe is the hot water flow, and a big brass tank that stores the hot water I heat. I'm thinking about getting a combi boiler, and I would like to know that if I do get a...
