litre
The litre (British English spelling) or liter (American English spelling) (SI symbols L and l, other symbol used: ℓ) is a metric unit of volume. It is equal to 1 cubic decimetre (dm3), 1000 cubic centimetres (cm3) or 0.001 cubic metre (m3). A cubic decimetre (or litre) occupies a volume of 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm (see figure) and is thus equal to one-thousandth of a cubic metre.
The original French metric system used the litre as a base unit. The word litre is derived from an older French unit, the litron, whose name came from Byzantine Greek—where it was a unit of weight, not volume—via Late Medieval Latin, and which equalled approximately 0.831 litres. The litre was also used in several subsequent versions of the metric system and is accepted for use with the SI, although not an SI unit—the SI unit of volume is the cubic metre (m3). The spelling used by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures is "litre", a spelling which is shared by most English-speaking countries. The spelling "liter" is predominantly used in American English. One litre of liquid water has a mass of almost exactly one kilogram, because the kilogram was originally defined in 1795 as the mass of one cubic decimetre of water at the temperature of melting ice (0 °C). Subsequent redefinitions of the metre and kilogram mean that this relationship is no longer exact.
I was at a job today and notice a 7litre under sink heater was fitted. Because of the size under 10litres do these not need a pressure relief valve and expansion vessl? It didn't have any of the kind. Thanks.
a few months ago I made an enquiry re a leak in hot water system under the floor preventing central heating working. thanks for help in my last post.

The pipes were well hidden and several visits were needed to track the pipe...
The background to this is that I have a close friend who runs a charity helping to homeless people into work and accommodation. Needless to say the accommodation is usually right at the bottom end of the range. This weekend she asked me to take a look at a studio flat in Reading where a tenant...

I have a 70kW woodchip biomass boiler installation including a 650 litre buffer tank, all installed in 2014. The buffer tank loses pressure from say 2.58 bars to 0.00 bars within a 48 hour period. Yet there are no visible signs of any water leaks,
When this tank is drained of water then...
I recently changed 3 old lever handle concealed toilet cisterns to Grohe pneumatic type cisterns. Problem is have now is that it won't flush paper away. It's fine with waste but not paper. Customer says was fine before but I'm not 100% on this !!

Does anyone know if there is an accurate formula for working out the requirement of heating hot water for a 210 litre unvented cylinder. Using the whole house method works o.k for standard vented cylinders, but i just want to know if more allowance would be required for unvented cylinders due to...
Hi,
I am planning to have a Worcester Greenstar i System boiler (30kw). Would you go for a Worcester cylinder or a Santon cylinder?
Also in terms of size, is it best to go for a smaller cylinder say 210ltres instead of 250litres to save heating and storing a lot of water?
There are five...
Hi, I need to buy a toilet and I have a few questions.
I recently cracked my cistern after reinstalling my closed coupled toilet. My first question is do all cc toilets have standardised connections and if so are there any common issues or problems I am likely to run across if I just buy...
I have a 2,500 litre water tank that I am about to install. Filled from a nearby stream, or it will be.
My question is this.
The water supply is from the stream, a submersible pump in a concrete chamber, this feeds into my plant room in 22mm copper, there is an expansion vessel, pressure...

Leaking hot water tank from Albion Water Heaters 1200 x 450 Grade 3, 162 litre vented cylinder
We had a new hot water tank installed 3 years ago and the leak probably started 1-2 years after installation judging by the build up of scale/residue around the leak, and the amount of water under the...
