flush
A flush toilet (also known as a flushing toilet, water closet (WC) – see also toilet names) is a toilet that disposes of human waste (principally urine and feces) by using the force of water to flush it through a drainpipe to another location for treatment, either nearby or at a communal facility, thus maintaining a separation between humans and their waste. Flush toilets can be designed for sitting (in which case they are also called "Western" toilets) or for squatting, in the case of squat toilets. Most modern sewage treatment systems are also designed to process specially designed toilet paper. The opposite of a flush toilet is a dry toilet, which uses no water for flushing.
Flush toilets are a type of plumbing fixture and usually incorporate an "S", "U", "J", or "P" shaped bend called a trap that causes water to collect in the toilet bowl to hold the waste and act as a seal against noxious sewer gases. Most flush toilets are connected to a sewerage system that conveys waste to a sewage treatment plant; where this is not available, a septic tank or composting system may be used. When a toilet is flushed, the wastewater flows into a septic tank, or is conveyed to a treatment plant.Associated devices are urinals, which dispose of male urine, and bidets, which use water to cleanse the anus, perineum, and genitals after using the toilet.
Hi there, our flush valve is still raising but refusing to drop back down. Been to all the plumbers merchants but none have anything that will click into the existing cradle. Its going to be far too difficult to remove the cistern and replace the cradle.
Any advice pleas on where I might be...
I've just had a Bathrooms tonlove sandro rimless toilet installed as part of a bathroom refurb. Unfortunately the flush doesn't reach the front of the bowl and looks like most of the flush is being channelled down the back 5 holes at the back of the pan.
It's a btw toilet fed from a concealed...
Hello
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy a toilet which has cistern flush capacity (not sure if I have phrased that correctly) of more than 6LTRs?
We previously had a Royal Doulton toilet which was accidentally thrown away when had the bathroom changed. New toilet is one of these...
Hi everyone,
I live on a top floor flat and would like to know when I run the kitchen cold tap should I run it for a few seconds before drinking it or will it not make a difference?
Does water sit in pipes when not used and should water in a kettle be replaced if it has been sitting for more...
Hi, I have a dual flush toilet that's leaking water from the cistern to the bowl. I've taken the flush system out cleaned the washer of gunk, cleaned the bottom of the tank and it's still leaking-in fact it was leaking more at 1st! I rotated the unit a little and it slowed down; I can't rotate...
Any recommendations for a push-button toilet dual flush valve, please (and must have a cable over 310mm)? Tried a Fluidmaster model but plumber says it won't fit the 2" flush pipe. Thanks.
Hi, new to the group and need advice with my Vitra ts823. The toilet stopped flushing and there is water constantly trickling inside it. I've removed the lid but not sure which part is knackered. I've tried pulling /pushing any bits that look like they should move but the trickle doesn't get...
The syphon activation cable on my old Bathstore A2432 dual flush valve has broken and I don't want to have to remove the whole cistern to replace the the complete unit. Does anyone know of a replacement valve the syphon part of which I can use to slot into the existing cradle, please? I hope...
Hi all.
I need to improvise a flush pipe some how. Anyone managed to do this with waste pipe at all. Basically the cistern is on the back of a 2 inch stud wall of where the toilet will go. The pipe cannot go straight down due to a washing machine needing to fit into the space below the...
Hi Guys,
I have a toilet where when you flush, the water from the cistern leaks out from a section of the cistern at the bottom where the seat area begins at the top just before the bowl.
Was wondering how this could be happening or how it could be fixed?
I've got water trickling into the pan of a toilet. The cistern water level is nowhere near the overflow pipe, so I suspect there's a faulty seal at the bottom of the flush valve (a Geberit model). However, I am unable to detach the flush unit to check. There don't seem to be any side clips to...
Hi all,
I wonder if any can help?
I have a vitra dual flush plate model name is 'loop'.
All of a sudden the press buttons don't work (don't flush) They still spring back but don't appear to be pushing against anything.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,
I had my new boiler and 13 radiators installed in July last year, but since installed all the radiators always top half hot and bottom half cold or warm. I know that if radiators top half hot bottom half cold/warm, it indicates there's sludge in there. But as the radiators were all new, so...
I'm after some advice.
I am looking to move our flush from the right side to the left, so that we can cover exposed pipes on the right.
There is a space for the flush on the left & can turn siphon to face the other way but the attachment for the flush to siphon is too short and to the ballcock...
I’ve discovered a slow leak behind my toilet that’s maybe been slowly leaking for a few years before we have moved in. I’ve replaced chipboard as it was soaked through. Seems to be coming from the flush pipe attached to cistern. The rubber washer seemed in ok condition, the hard plastic washer...
Hello,
I’m trying to replace an antique high level cistern with a more modern ceramic one. The flush pipe is routed in a very specific way so the new one will probably need to be bespoke.
Does anyone have any experience, or at least seen, bespoke flush pipes? I was hoping they could be made...
Does anyone know of any options for touchless flush kits (battery powered) for a Dudley push button, pneumatic flush? The Dudley one is well over £300 which seems really expensive when there are kits out there for non-pneumatic systems at less than £50.
