failure
Failure is the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective, and may be viewed as the opposite of success. The criteria for failure depends on context, and may be relative to a particular observer or belief system. One person might consider a failure what another person considers a success, particularly in cases of direct competition or a zero-sum game. Similarly, the degree of success or failure in a situation may be differently viewed by distinct observers or participants, such that a situation that one considers to be a failure, another might consider to be a success, a qualified success or a neutral situation.
It may also be difficult or impossible to ascertain whether a situation meets criteria for failure or success due to ambiguous or ill-defined definition of those criteria. Finding useful and effective criteria, or heuristics, to judge the success or failure of a situation may itself be a significant task.
Hi there,
All was good until one day the hot water suddenly started running quite a lot cooler. Putting my hand on the output at the boiler it's still hot there so I'm guessing there's a problem with cold water feeding into the hot water somewhere along the line. I have mixer taps on two...
I am having a problem with my main 24he boiler where the flame is constantly clicking on and off with the heating and when using hot water. Some times the flame failure light comes on but it ignites again after a few seconds. The plumber has changed a couple of sensors on the boiler and checked...
Morning everyone. Got an issue with an internal soil stack boss strap failure. The boss strap had been sealed originally with silicon which has failed and caused a leak. The soil stack is accessible but it’s tight working area.
Do I seal the boss strap with OB1, cross my fingers and hope it...
Can anyone tell me what the nut is for on the side of the double check valve in the pipe leading to my outside tap? The valve is jammed closed and I wondered if it is possible to free it?

Hi Guys,
Got a Main Combi 24 HE which is stuck on flame failure. Customer had a gas leak on the gas run which was repaired, after this the customer turned the boiler on from the spur and the boiler is was stuck on flame failure which flashes slowly.

Hi all,
Just after some other plumbers' views on an issue.
I serviced a pro boil tap this week (PROBOIL 2 - Steaming Hot Water Boiler - https://www.pronteau.co.uk/3-in-1/proboil-2). It was just under three years old, and never serviced. It should be serviced annually, and a new filter every...
On bad advice our builder installed a no brand/cheap built in shower mixer in our new bathroom 5 years ago.
It has stopped working - and the water is almost impossible to adjust to the right temperature - and changes temp when other taps in the house are turned on/off.
We have been told that...
Howdy I need to install a new rough in valve in my shower-bath. I bought a Delta 10000 UNBX and using the existing 1/2" copper piping was able to fit up the 2 inlets and pipe to the shower head and another to the tub, all 1/2 copper. The bathroom is on the ground level. In the basement right...
I've just found a load of old photos I took when I was an apprentice. Among them was this standard circulating pump that was installed on an unvented secondary return circuit. It should have been a bronze pump as I'm sure you know. I was called to re-install the unvented cylinder which was up in...
Hi
I drained my heating system to replace a radiator and now ive got flame failure on the boiler (potterton promax fsb he). I've repressurised it and bled radiators. Any ideas?
Hi,
We had a new combi boiler fitted this week, changing from a system boiler and water tank. The work did not touch the bathroom area. The first shower with the new boiler the concealed mixer failed and caused water to flow through the ceiling below. The mixer failed when I activated the stop...
Buy cheap and you buy twice, and you may in fact flood your kitchen in the process.
The flexi in the picture burst just under the tap for no apparent reason other than in my opinion it was cheap tat. The tap itself was an Ebay purchase and felt like tin, when compared to the Bristan one it is...
I had a leak coming out from this reducing tee just after a month after installation.
I think it’s an old Hep2O tee.
I took it apart and found that the grab ring had scratch the PEX pipe.
Making me think the pipe had move out of its place.
Has anyone else have the same problem and any idea...
Morning all.
Just to let you know I’m an installer rather than a breakdown/repair engineer, im after a bit of advice please!
Boiler in my house is an Alpha cd24c!
3 times over the last 2 months the boiler has gone to lockout, 3rd time being this morning!
Reset boiler and all is fine, obviously...
Hi, this is my first post so please be kind! Have had a problem with the hot tap on bathroom sink for months now, sometimes its fine, sometimes no water comes out until fully turned on, sometimes you turn it fully on and nothing comes out until you start turning it off again. Husband (an...
hi guys. Went to a breakdown today. Fault code suggested flame failure check gas supply. I cracked open the nut to the gas isolation at the boiler good flow of gas.. the inlet on the gas valve very small amount of gas creeping out. Would I correct in saying new multifunction gas valve required?
Hi
A kitchen tap thats in regular use has failed a legionnaires test, ive been asked to clear out the pipes? I know they have an isolated shower, maybe a dead leg somewhere but not directly on this pipe. So can it be a dirty pipe even if in regular use? I always saw this as a stagnant static...
The client heated the space to over 40c and approx 100m of side wall insulated panelling with a cement based inner skin have cracked badly. Probably about £5ooo pounds worth of damage.
His aim was to get the slab temp to 30c.
The ceiling (approx - 1500 sq/M) has the same...
Hi guys,
I'm after some advice from the more experienced gas guys.
I've been GasSafe for just over a year - qualified via an intensive course (which I know some of you guys have a downer on) after redundancy. I make no claims of understanding everything about boilers as a lot comes with...
