expansion

Thermal expansion is the tendency of matter to change its shape, area, volume, and density in response to a change in temperature, usually not including phase transitions.Temperature is a monotonic function of the average molecular kinetic energy of a substance. When a substance is heated, molecules begin to vibrate and move more, usually creating more distance between themselves. Substances which contract with increasing temperature are unusual, and only occur within limited temperature ranges (see examples below). The relative expansion (also called strain) divided by the change in temperature is called the material's coefficient of linear thermal expansion and generally varies with temperature. As energy in particles increases, they start moving faster and faster weakening the intermolecular forces between them, therefore expanding the substance.

Unvented system and expansion tank pressurisation

I've recently had a prv changed by a British Gas engineer under the homecare contract that I've taken out. The valve had failed and water was pouring out from the overflow pipe. The valve was replaced without too much issue. However, the red expansion tank above the boiler was NOT re-pressurised...

    Expansion position heat only boiler

I know when installing an expansion vessel it must be connected to the system without any isolation valves. How is best to pipe in to the system so it can't be isolated. In the diagram below a potential way I was going to pipe in to a heat only boiler. It could be isolated by isolating the...

Promax Combi HE Plus recharge expansion valve

Hi all, a little advice and validation of current advice (from dad). So boiler has been loosing pressure with an error code of E119. The pressure drops over a day or two and I top it up to around 1.5 by means of loop. This temporarily allows the boiler to fire up and do its thing. I can't carry...

How to recharge an expansion vessel?

Hi, When my boiler (regular vented I believe) is on there's a constant trickle of water flowing out a pipe to outside (coming off the red vessel in the image below). It's happened in the past and IIRC the expansion vessel needs recharging. I'm pretty sure it's the case again as when I take the...

    Correct Expansion Vessel Pressure

Evening all, So I've been losing pressure from my boiler on a daily basis and having to top it up. The pressure gauge is up at around 3.5 bar when the boiler is on so I assumed the expansion vessel has either failed or is low on pressure. I had a look on both the Cimms website (the EV is a Cimm...
