constantly running

In physics, a coupling constant or gauge coupling parameter (or, more simply, a coupling), is a number that determines the strength of the force exerted in an interaction. Originally, the coupling constant related the force acting between two static bodies to the "charges" of the bodies (i.e. the electric charge for electrostatic and the mass for Newton's gravity) divided by the distance squared,

{\displaystyle F=k_{\text{e}}q_{1}q_{2}/r^{2}}
for electrostatic. This description remains valid in modern physics for linear theories with static bodies and massless force carriers.
A modern and more general definition uses the Lagrangian

L

{\displaystyle {\mathcal {L}}}
(or equivalently the Hamiltonian

H

{\displaystyle {\mathcal {H}}}
) of a system. Usually,

L

{\displaystyle {\mathcal {L}}}
(or

H

{\displaystyle {\mathcal {H}}}
) of a system describing an interaction can be separated into a kinetic part

T

{\displaystyle T}
and an interaction part

V

{\displaystyle V}
:

L

V

{\displaystyle {\mathcal {L}}=T-V}
(or

H

T
+
V

{\displaystyle {\mathcal {H}}=T+V}
).
In field theory,

V

{\displaystyle V}
always contains 3 fields terms or more, expressing for example that an initial electron (field 1) interacted with a photon (field 2) producing the final state of the electron (field 3). In contrast, the kinetic part

T

{\displaystyle T}
always contains only two fields, expressing the free propagation of an initial particle (field 1) into a later state (field 2).
The coupling constant determines the magnitude of the

T

{\displaystyle T}
part with respect to the

V

{\displaystyle V}
part (or between two sectors of the interaction part if several fields that couple differently are present). For example, the electric charge of a particle is a coupling constant that characterizes an interaction with two charge-carrying fields and one photon field (hence the common Feynman diagram with two arrows and one wavy line). Since photons mediate the electromagnetic force, this coupling determines how strongly electrons feel such a force, and has its value fixed by experiment. By looking at the QED Lagrangian, one sees that indeed, the coupling sets the proportionality between the kinetic term

A coupling plays an important role in dynamics. For example, one often sets up hierarchies of approximation based on the importance of various coupling constants. In the motion of a large lump of magnetized iron, the magnetic forces may be more important than the gravitational forces because of the relative magnitudes of the coupling constants. However, in classical mechanics, one usually makes these decisions directly by comparing forces. Another important example of the central role played by coupling constants is that they are the expansion parameters for first-principle calculations based on perturbation theory, which is the main method of calculation in many branches of physics.

    CH Pump constantly running

    Evening, just had new boiler and Ch pump. 24hrs later noticed pump was constantly pumping despite schedule being off. Only way to stop it was to turn boiler off, opened airing cupboard to notice slight wet patch from a leaking valve near pump. Fitter sent someone out who drained system and...

    Flush constantly running and tank not filling

    Hello- I’m not sure what sort of cistern we have (photo attached) but the water is constantly running after flushing and it does not seem to fill. Am wondering whether this is a job I can fix myself as we are really trying to keep to social distancing at the moment. Obviously if we need to get a...

    Valliant Unvented 300l- Water constantly running through pipes

    I have an unvented pressurized plumbing system (Valliant 300 l). It seems as though the water is constantly running excessively through the pipes from the water tank. It's not coming from the tundish side, i think its coming from the pressurised tank. What can be the cause? How can i verify...

    Boilder and pump keep running when demand has stopped

    Hi all, hopefully someone can offer some advice: I have a potterton profile 80 boilder (I know quite old!). It's a S-PLAN system. Over the last few months, the boiler control has been a little eractic, but I have struggled to nail it down. Lately, it's now been running all the time (pump...

    Main Combi 30 HE Pump Constantly Running

    Main Combi 30 HE when cold, set central heating to on, boiler fires and flames for a few seconds, flame goes out but pump continues to run. If I turn hot water on then HW operates and feeds through, stop HW and pump still running. Is this likely to be a pump issue or a PCB issue? Was working...

    Vitra dual flush toilet constantly running

    Bit of advice please. I'm trying to remove and clean the flush valve washer as I suspect it's either worn or needs a clean. (Toilet is not filling and emptying water straight out into the bowl). However, from reading a post on here it appears that I may have to give the unit a 90 degree turn to...

    Kingspan rainwater system - water constantly running

    Neighbour in Cornwall has such a system but is suffering constant 'water running' sound whilst the panel shows 'power' and 'status' ok - the pressure is low. I suspect a leak on the feed to point of use, or should I advise a pressure re-set. Suppose 1st point of call would be turn off mains...

    constantly running overflow

    I had a combi boiler fitted a few month ago, but now i've developed a constantly running overflo. My understanding is that the hot water tank has gone, and the cold water tank in the loft is redundant(i've checked and its empty). So where is the overflow coming from?
