cold

Cold is the presence of low temperature, especially in the atmosphere. In common usage, cold is often a subjective perception. A lower bound to temperature is absolute zero, defined as 0.00 K on the Kelvin scale, an absolute thermodynamic temperature scale. This corresponds to −273.15 °C on the Celsius scale, −459.67 °F on the Fahrenheit scale, and 0.00 °R on the Rankine scale.
Since temperature relates to the thermal energy held by an object or a sample of matter, which is the kinetic energy of the random motion of the particle constituents of matter, an object will have less thermal energy when it is colder and more when it is hotter. If it were possible to cool a system to absolute zero, all motion of the particles in a sample of matter would cease and they would be at complete rest in this classical sense. The object would be described as having zero thermal energy. Microscopically in the description of quantum mechanics, however, matter still has zero-point energy even at absolute zero, because of the uncertainty principle.

Triton Eden Concentric Mixer doesn't turn to cold

Hi, Hopefully someone can shine a light on this! I have a Triton Eden Concentric Mixer Shower (shown below). For some reason the temperature control becomes increasingly stiff as you turn to the cold range, and I need to "flick" it around with a bit of force to get colder water. This has been...

Shower allowing hot water into cold feed

Background: I have an outhouse with its own cold feed (with own stopcock). The hot feed into the outhouse is provided via a combi boiler in the main house - and therefore is controlled by the stopcock on the cold feed to the house. Therefore, to totally isolate both hot and cold water in the...

Can a TMV fail on such a way as to create a 'short circuit' from cold to hot?

Hi, everyone - I hope someone can point out the obvious thing that I'm sure I've overlooked. I have a DHW problem. I have a 210 litre indirect cylinder (Megaflo) with secondary circulation. There are 9 'drops' off the hot loop - all at the far end of the loop. Not all of the pipe run is...

    Noisy pipes on cold main

I am perilously close to losing my mind - so any help appreciated! About a month ago a vibrating sound started on our cold mains (copper pipes). This noise will often go on for 12-24 hours, always a loud rumbling sound that you can feel in the pipes. I am in a maisonette, and believe the cold...

Hi everyone, I am looking for advice as under my kitchen sink their are two pipes, the cold water feed and hot water feed, the hot water feed has a check valve/NRV fitted on the copper pipe (I am not sure which kind of valve it is but it has an arrow on it) but the cold water feed pipe doesn't...

Worcester Greenstar 24i. Junior. Hot then cold.

If the bath top shower is used by turning on the cold tap first, then the hot supply, it will give a consistent short shower, but that is getting shorter day by day before it goes cold. If the hot is turned on first, then the cold, that will result in domestic supply going cold within a few...

Mixer Cold Tap Leaking from Top

Hi, I have a Tre Mercati Bridge Sink Mixer Tap. The taps are screw down. The cold water tap leaks from the top when turned on (the water wells up around the top).
