clunking
"Clunk Click Every Trip" is the slogan of a series of British public information films, commencing in the summer of 1970 presented by Shaw Taylor, then in January 1971, starring Jimmy Savile.
The BBC adapted Savile's slogan for the title of his Saturday night variety show beginning in 1973. The slogan was introduced during the previous campaign, fronted by Shaw Taylor and featuring the slogan "Your seatbelt is their security". However, it was the onomatopoeia used by Taylor to describe the act of closing the door and fastening a seatbelt which proved the most memorable aspect of the campaign, and so it was upgraded to act as the slogan when the films moved into colour.
The advertisements highlighted the dangers of traffic collisions and reminded drivers that the first thing they should do after closing the door ("Clunk") is fasten their seatbelt ("Click"). These advertisements, which included graphic sequences of drivers being thrown through the windscreen and, in one Savile-hosted public service announcement, an image of a disfigured woman who survived such an accident, helped lay the groundwork for compulsory seatbelt use in the front seat of a vehicle, which came into force on 31 January 1983 in the UK, although car manufacturers had been legally obliged to fit front seatbelts since 1965.
Noise seems to stop when softener is bypassed, not 100% certain. Noise is intermittent, a thwack/thump we can feel in the inlet pipe. It's only for a few hours a day, and never when water is running. Harvey's water softener is 4 years old and water is from mains, not a tank. Salt is not blocked...
Morning,
We’re having our en suite done and since the work started I’ve noticed a loud clunk after we turn the hot tap off in the kitchen. Obviously, the water was turned off and the central heating drained. Could it be something to do with that? I asked the plumber and he said it won’t be the...
Hello, Hope you guys can help, I have a conk/clunk noise coming out the cylinder, when I draw hot water from any tap in the house - I’ve checked the pipes and I’m very sure its not water hammer, I will attached couple of recordings to the this post and what my setup looks like.

I’m being driven crazy by a pressure release value clunking on and off repeatedly for hours on end. I have discovered the pvr, which has been recently replaced, is a 3 bar (the one before was 6bar). I can also see I have an in line pressure tank (also new, but before the new PVR fitted) in the...
I have a loud clunking noise coming from the PRV when the cold water is shut off. It has been doing it for at least a year now but its getting annoying and I have noticed in the night (when the water pressure rises) I am getting random clunks from this valve after about 11pm at night. I am...
Hi,
I have kept this piece of rubbish going for quite a long time and I don't like the idea of getting defeated by it! Every year there is something new to tackle and replace. I will eventually replace it for a real one!
I have now got a problem that I can't work out and was wondering if some...

Dear All,
After turning off taps or after the toilet completes filling the cistern, there is a loud metal clunking sound coming from pipework.
I have drained all the water from the pipes twice to get rid of water hammer. This helped stop the sound for a few weeks but the sound always came...

Hi,
I live in East London in a victorian mews house. In the past few days I've noticed an odd sound, as if the water is running somewhere in the house, followed by a 'clunk' noise intermittently. It happens every 20-40 mins and lasts 3-5 seconds. This happens when the house is idle, i.e, even...
Hi all
Recently moved into an ex council property, 2 bed flat. The pipework is all visible externally on the walls and quite old from the looks of it.
There is a Alpha Eco2 combi boiler installed.
When I first moved in the system was ridiculously noisy, clear sound of rushing water when the...
Hi guys,
I'm having problems with my Ferroli Falcon boiler. The DHW is fine with plenty of heat and pressue in the taps but the CH refuses to fire up properly. It comes on but the pump makes a horrible clunking noise and then the flame cuts out.
My Gas Safe certified mate came to have a look...

I have a problems with my washing machine. Whenever it spins i get a loud clunking sound in my pipes. I have looked on line and found out about a water hammer but that seems to be when it is filling and not spinning. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks
Hi Guys,
At the moment our boiler (Glow Worm Spacer Saver RF) seems to be on its way out, there's quite a few weird 'clunking' noises coming from it now and again and I occasionally have to take the cover off it to free the fan up with WD40 or similar spray to get it to start up. About 4 days...

My Vaillant turbomax 837E combi has just begun to make a rattling/clunking noise when turning on hot water & heating. The pressure gauge dial flickers (it doesn't drop but just flickers up & down by about 1mm). Someone said the pump has probably gone - could this still be the case if I am still...
