cisterns
A cistern (Middle English cisterne, from Latin cisterna, from cista, "box", from Greek κίστη kistē, "basket") is a waterproof receptacle for holding liquids, usually water. Cisterns are often built to catch and store rainwater. Cisterns are distinguished from wells by their waterproof linings. Modern cisterns range in capacity from a few litres to thousands of cubic metres, effectively forming covered reservoirs.
Hi All
I need to replace a concealed cistern. I need a standard size 14.5cm wide x 51cm long x 25cm deep. The pull down lever is on the right.
Does any one know of the better, less problematic brands to use please? If you could let me know I would appreciate it . Thanks a lot
Betty
Hi, my Geberit duel push button has stopped flushing the toilet. When either button is pressed a small amount of water is released but not enough to flush the toilet. I have removed the plate holding the unit and pulled the 2 plastic tubes away. By blowing into the tubes the system flushes so I...
HI
Does anyone have any recommendations for the most powerful enclosed cistern. I have installed a WC unit with a cistern that has a cable flush cistern. It does flush, but might take 2 flushes to get rid of all the waste and often the water only washes down the front of the WC pan , not all...
OK so disclaimer – i'm a millennial who hates DIY – BUT I sincerely want to learn and acknowledge I need to get over the embarrassment of not knowing a lot.
The main thing is I don't want to be ripped off by plumbers so I need to figure this stuff out.
So... I have two push-button toilets both...
Hi, just after the mains stopcock under my kitchen sink I have a tee, one pipe to drinkable water+washing machine and the other to the loft cisterns (talking about an open vented pumped S-plan system, standard here in UK).
I was wondering whether it is safe to add an isolating valve on the...
I have a job coming up in a house where the primary F&E is in the loft and has a tap pouring into the top of it (!) and also a combined feed and vent in 15mm. Am planning to fit FOV, add a 22mm vent, and an overflow.
My concern is that the combined cold water storage and indirect-cylinder feed...
I recently changed 3 old lever handle concealed toilet cisterns to Grohe pneumatic type cisterns. Problem is have now is that it won't flush paper away. It's fine with waste but not paper. Customer says was fine before but I'm not 100% on this !!
Doesn't seem as much pressure as before but it...
Am beginning to wonder if its ever worth repairing these things for replacement parts , with the amount of running around now to get correct syphon or float valve that will fit and then chuck on materials and time together i reckon you fit a new bog for nigh on same money.
Any of you guys...
I do lots of maintenance work which includes changing ball valves in toilet cisterns, most push button cisterns are fine as I use the Fluidmaster with a brass shank.
The Hydroflow ( Torbeck type ) fits some cisterns with a normal syphon and handle but there no longer seems to be much choice if...
Ones where the drop valve end of flushpipe is bigger and pan end of flushpipe bit smaller and a smooth circular nut is found on flush pipe under cistern. Does anyone know if there is a universal 2" valve that will work in these? And seal properly to existing cistern/flushpipe?
Also is the end...

Hi there,
Does anyone know if the local Building Control has to be informed when replacing a Cold Water Storage Cistern and F&E tank? I know they need to know when replacing a cylinder, just not sure about storage tanks.
Thanks in advance
Mike :-)

Some sets are sold without spares support. Even expensive ones. I've got a new one with broken lid and cannot get a new lid
Are cisterns commonly interchangeable... For instance are there a few common patterns to the coupling layout?
Seems like its hit and miss.

Hello.... I am involved in a project to fit a children's nursery with 3 low-level toilets. The landlord will supply the cisterns but the client needs to buy the low bowls. Can anyone advise.... can ordinary full-size cisterns be used with small bowls? Or does the landlord need to buy specialist...
Hi all,
I recently fitted a pump to boost the shower pressure in the house. The plumbing is all flexible pipe and all cold feeds are fed off the same 22mm ring. Taps, toilets, showers and bath, both upstairs and down. Don't know if this is normal, but it is normal in Donegal, North West Ireland...
I live in a maisonette that has a downstairs WC and an upstairs bathroom.
On Sunday the porcelain cistern cracked when I was using the upstairs toilet, I put this down to me being 14 stone and quickly shut off the ball valve then popped to B&Q and bought and fitted a brand new toilet.
