Having had a week of asking various help desks i'm hoping that somebody on here will be able to add some clarity to the following situation?

Having purchased a Quinn centre feed radiator and fitting straight TRV and Lockshield the rad didn't heat up evenly and sometimes not at all. Quinn tell me that an H Block valve is needed and that it should have been ordered at the same time as the rad and which i've now received.:disappointed: This apparently to manage the flow and return with adjustments possible after removing a pair of screw on covers.

I now learn that the TRV cannot be used where expected (on the centre feed) but has instead to go on the more traditional lower right hand side....BUT.......'you'll need a T insert to do so...which you can get at any plumbers merchants'.

Well I could if the plumbers merchants i've called knew what it actually was?

HELP!

Problem more likely to be with your plumbing. Where has it been connected into and what size pipework was it ?

I think I saw this type of radiator in a magazine once, it has a funny valve to connect the flow & return, I would expect you to be able to buy one from who ever sold you the radiator!

Is there any reason you did not buy a regulat type radiator?

Thanks chaps but the question is 'what's a t-insert? Supposed to be needed to fit the TRV

I have the special hblock valve to sort the flow and return so am hopeful that the rad will work but I need a TRV.

I chose the centre feed as the narrow 400mm high rad has been angled to fit a Victorian bay window which has 10" skirting and I thought it would look better 'floating' as opposed to being supported on two spindly 15mm 'legs'. I also expected it to look a bit tidier at either end but its basically a standard rad with some amendments.

I believe the actual intended benefit of centre feed comes when you feed the pipes straight back into a studwork wall so don't see any pipes but I missed out on that benefit!

The only tee shaped part I can think of would be the chrome tee to convert a towel warmer to duel fuel, not sure if that's what you want though.

Speaking as a plumbers merchant, I can confirm that we all know what that part is, and we all carry a large stock down the back of the warehouse.

Its our policy not to sell them for cash - we will only exchange them for hen's teeth, or rocking-horse poo.

Fortunately, both those commodities are readily available from the technical department of any good radiator manufacturer.

You obviously don't otherwise you'd have given a sensible answer.

I have one coming from Quinn via PTS. When it arrives I'll let you know so you can get some in stock.

No T-insert yet so no pictures but the net is closing.

It appears to be a fitting that allows the TRV to be fitted horizontally to the top right hand 'outlet'. J
That's just above the Fudgebumble plate Ray;)

The Cabinet Maker in the unit next door suggested as much...and he's rarely wrong!

No need to wait what you are being sent is a thermostatic insert. Essentially a Trv valve body that fits in to the rad itself. A 10 min browse of the quinn rad catalogue off there website found this.

Good detective work Tim, but a) have you ever seen or fitted one in your entire career? and b) would you expect "every merchant" to have one?

Have fitted similar but not quinn. No definitely would not expect every merchant to have them in stock. A case of unhelpfull customer service and badly chosen part code/descriptor (Tinsert....... realy? that couldnt be describing 1 of a 100 different plumbing components now could it.) Thermostatic valve cartridge/insert would have had everyone on the same page. Untrained telephone script readers to blame as is so often the case, then again if I as a heating professional were given the same info I would have requested more detail on its function and probably not been fobbed off with "you need a Tinsert". Equally if all there supplying is the valve body that threads in to the rad then its down to the fitter to source a valve head such as a danfoss that the catalogue tefers too and they may well be in stock at many merchants.
