Morning all. I hope you are all well. I have come across a one pipe system which basically isn't working. Client says it has never worked great but it has become a lot worse. I see the radiators that have been added later on have valves on both ends of the rad which I hear is a no no. I also hear that there are special valves for these. Anyone know of which valves and where to get them?

Cheers all.

You can have valves on both ends if you so wish. The valves should be designed for a one pipe system though as the radiators work by Gravity (not pumped).
Any Plumbers merchant can order them for you but start by looking at the Danfoss site to decide what you want or call their tech team to discuss it. They are very helpful.

Thanks mate. Crawled under the floor today and it looks like a 2 pipe system. Never seen rads installed like this before.

Cut into a few bits of pipe to see if it was sludge any where but looks pretty clear. Going to give it a flush tomorrow and see how it gets on as I am getting no return to the boiler. Drains and fills up sweet from f&e tank so a bit miffed.

Not related but to do with heating. Quoting for a replacement boiler which has gravity hot water. Property is 3 floors so need 2 room stats and hot water stats. Boiler at a distance from cylinder and in an extension with a flat roof so no way to run cables. What wireless sets people using. I am looking at either a 3 channel programmer or 1 channel and 2 programmable room stats. No Internet connection required due to the folks being old.

Thanks all. I hope you are all keeping well and busy.

What a mare! Flushed it today and all radiators got hot. Didn't find any blockages on the flush and cleared out a serious amount of sludge.

Now only 3 rads work downstairs and none upstairs. I think I am losing my mind here. This is my 1st job really since lockdown due to refurbishing another home. I have a dead line to get this rented by and now this job has me flummoxed!! It is only a heating system so 🤷

You haven’t moved any dirt into the pump / check the pump

Yea still in wales hunkering down And playing each day by ear :D

my guess is you’ve done too much of a good job and now there’s less resistance upstairs that it would rather short circuit that sounds like you need to balance upstairs but don’t touch them iso valves :D

So you going into the firebreak then or are you able to still work? Cannot believe there is a border now between Wales and the rest of the UK.

The iso valves have been great as I used them for flushing. Not a weep any where. There are actually less rads working now than when I started in this property. I only went to do an annual boiler service!!

Only emergency work eg leaks and no heating from Friday

if there ok try tweaking them a 1/4 shut etc and see what happens

Well I am sure there will be lots of that kind of work around. Would you charge emergency prices?

Had a go at tweaking the valves and they just get lukewarm. Might try replacing all the valves tomorrow and see how that goes or leaves me out of pocket.

Yea as for prices no just normal people are already on hard times

try shutting upstairs off does dorm stairs get hot ?

Nothing is hot upstairs after the flush. No flow at all. Might be a mammoth air lock as they were getting warm before hand. Even put the cold mains onto a drain off and forced it up until it was coming out the f&e overflow but nada.

Me neither Shaun. Me neither. Gonna have to pass it on to a bigger company I think as my house is not getting done and I am wasting valuable time on what could have been spent on my house. Cut my losses! Never done it before but my head is not in it until my house is done.

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

Hi all I'm hoping someone can shine a light on this for me Since our stop tap on the pavement has now been filled with sand for whatever reason, we are relying on our property fitted stopcock (this is outside on our garage wall) Unfortunately turning this to the closed position only reduces...
