Thanks again for all the replies, very much appreciated.
Will probably try the Vaillant fixed price repair, they do one with 6 months cover for around £300.
If it's just an 'O' ring for the leak and perhaps a pump replacement for the s.54, hot water problem could have a good boiler for a few...
Thanks for the replies. I had found this old thread that indicated that a "packing ring" would fix the leak:-
Vaillant Turbomax Main Heat Exchanger Leaking at Connection
However the Engineer does a lot of Vaillant repairs and said that you have to replace the main Heat Ex. He said that the...
The copper pipe that connects is on the LHS (view from front) and I get a small leak every other day. Do not have to top up frequently, just wipe away.
Also has developed an occasional S.54 fault "delay mode due to flow temperature gradient too steep" which means the hot water runs cold with no...
Current and last house both had pressurized combi systems but both did this, bathroom radiator only.
Both cases it did not smell gassy so was not from corrosion of the system. I think I read that air can be taken in on the return side of the pump without a leak showing, not sure if that is...
It was n't reacfast, just a local medium sized heating company. I only asked the heating engineer they sent (for a service) as I thought it must be a nightmare if I did get a leak and wondered if there was an easy way to fix. They have been OK so far and recommended by others locally.
I will ask...
I wondered how this would work as the Rads are not in series. Hope I never get a underfloor leak on the ground floor if it cannot be done this way!
I will ask again when I next have it serviced, cannot remember which of their engineers it was though.
The company I use said they don't have to lift the floorboards, they pressure test between radiators in each part of the run till they find the run that is losing pressure. Then they know where to start lifting floorboards. If you are not on a service contract with British Gas and are paying as...
Thanks for that leakylea, I might be OK now. As mentioned above the Engineer who replaced the Auto Air Vent said it was flat and pumped it up again. I then noticed a pressure loss and presumed it was deflating again as I could not see any leaks. Luckily I have just noticed dripping from the pipe...
Thanks for that puddle and danielp. The boiler is 4-5 years old and is due for a power flush this Thursday as it has been through 6 auto air vents, the last only lasted 9 months! It was chemically cleansed (X400) at 2 years old but still they fail, so power flush and MagnClean are last resort...
Could anyone tell me if replacing the expansion vessel (on a Worcester Bosch combi 28i RSF) is best left to the manufacturer or is it an easy job and a good heating engineer will be able to replace without problem? Many thanks for any advice.

Thanks for that Mike. When you say proper flush, what would be appropriate? Should I powerflush (with something like Fernox F5 or even DS-40) to be thorough. Or would that be overkill in a system under 5 years old and would it be best to just to do the chemical flush again, with Sentinel X400...
I have a Worcester Bosch 28i RSF combi, whole sytem fitted new December 2004 (not sure if it was flushed correctly on install.) The Auto Air vent leaked and was replaced after 9 months, then 7, after which it was cleansed for two weeks with Sentinel X400 and Fernox MB1 inhibitor added. The vent...
