    What to charge customers...

As a self employed, not vat Registered, Domestic wet works plumbing only (no gas) I just charge a flat rate of £60 per hour for the first five hours and then that was it for my day rate of £300. The only time I ever thought otherwise was when it got to 3 hours or four hours then I quite often...

    Rate my injury please

Here is my ouchy from 4 weeks ago come Monday, cutting window boards with a sliding mitre saw, my M.E. Got the better of me and lost my concentration between lining up the saw and holding the window board in place, obviously this saw won. i’m not too sure but I think I’m now retired from...

    Is the Plumber Responsible?

If you do claim on your insurance make sure that you tell them who installed It and when because they’ll be looking to claim back from the plumber on his insurance or from him himself for any of your uninsured losses and indeed theirs as well.

    £250 for an outside tape

Seems a bit steep to me unless it took all day due to unforeseen issues. I have only given 8 estimates in 12 years, but all my customers know that I just charge X pounds per hour and I can give them a verbal estimate of how long the tropical job takes, but always based that on if there is...

Red and brown plugs ..radiator fixing

I have a lot of wattle and dub around here - and they always want 3 or 4 column rads there too. I've had to cut the wall away once to osb behind it so I've tried a lot of fittings on the others. Had one come away, and luckily only an inch. Spring toggles have worked well so far but I'm keen to...

    Brushless tools now at Lidl

Bought a DeWalt 6 piece 11 years ago, only problem is the 2amp batteries draining fast, tried to get a couple of 'new' ones only to find they had been new in storage for 7 years, one failed fast. So limping along on 3 batteries now. Only the grinder rally chews them up. Otherwise, other than...

Them red things that flex to catch water - Name?

I like milk bottles, 4 and 6lt ones. Then I can cut them any way I need to get around or under pipes. I have Tubs too but they never seal quite right.

Silicone with an adhesive and mould resistance

I used to use a Fugenboy but found it wouldn't clean the tile tidy enough, now I use a Vitrex kit, a lovely soft wipe with multiple heads. Does wear down on the grouting lines though.

    Intermittent slow draining toilet

Just had a thought, reminds my of a broken AAV/Durgo. Does it have an external stack or internal vent?

Silicone with an adhesive and mould resistance

Is that Mapelsil AC? So many types! If 785 goes off after just 3 years, not for me.

    Intermittent slow draining toilet

I always get the customer to have a look at what blocked it - only one has thrown up :) All stopped throwing baby/toilet wipes down it.

What is the best pipe slice?

Monument and service them, only one not working currently - condensation in the van got to it. I have a ratchet one, not auto though so take a little longer but really saves the wrists and fingers if close to the wall or at a angle.
