Hi I'm hoping someone can help with a problem I've had since November 20. I got a new circuit board fitted to my gas boiler and since then have had a loud droning/humming noise all around the house. Had engineer back 3 times and he says nothing wrong. Called water suppliers and they have checked water and say its fine although pressure was high. Got a pressure reducing valve and the noise still continues. Have bled radiators checked toilet and still the house hums. Switched power off and can still hear it. HELP!

Is it continuous (i.e. all the time 24/7) or does it come on and off?

Does it stop or persist when the power to the boiler is switched off?

Which make and model of boiler do you have?

Can other people hear the noise?

Is it just inside the house or can you hear it outside?

The noise is persistent 24/7 and continues when boiler is switched off too it's a vokera linea he boiler and my husband hears the humming the same as me a bit of a pest as can't sleep at night for continual humming which seems louder at night. Can only hear it inside the house not outside

So, you've turned off the mains supply to the boiler and the hum is still there. That should rule out the boiler.

You said you'd switched off the electricity for the whole house and the hum persists so that would seem to rule out lighting transformers, etc.

Does the hum stop if you shut the stopcock on the incoming water supply?

Is the house detached?

The hum still persists when sure stop valve is switched off. I live in semi detached house. The noise gets louder when running hot or cold water.

That's what Scottish water guy suggested but they are not approachable neighbours but when we run hot or cold water the noise seems to get louder.

The water company did that but could only turn it off for a few minutes as the valve feeds 3 houses so wasnt off long enough to notice as it was through the day and TV was on at time only realised they had put it off when they came to my door to make sure I had water coming through. They also did other tests to see if there was a leak underground anywhere but say there isnt
